Book Sale

I love the Matthews Library. I love it so much that I pay to use it. I love my other library too, but they charge me $1 for a used paperback. I got all of these from Matthews for...wait for it...

80 cents

The Rule of Four and Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil are both hardcovers (at a whopping 25 cents a piece). The paperbacks were 10 cents a piece. Only Light on Snow was a former library book. The rest were donated books that they decided not to put on the shelves. I've read The Rule of Four, but the rest are new to me. I'm excited!

Has anyone read any of the others before? Thoughts on them?

I haven't read any of them, but look forward to your reviews to decide if I will! I love used books--the best way to purchase books, in my mind.

Lisa: I had a friend say that if I liked The Devil in the White City, I would also like Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. It's a similar type book--true stories that read like a novel. And, Midnight is set in Savannah, one of my favorite places! I've just opened my eyes to used book sales and I'm having fun with them!

I don't know about that. I loved Devil in the White City, but was sort of lukewarm on Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. You definitely feel the setting. Warmth and humidity seem to surround you while reading the story. It's been so many years since I read it, though, that I don't remember the whole story. The characters and setting are still vivid, though, which is saying something.

I am SO happy for you that you found such a wonderful deal on books! We have a Scholastic Warehouse by us that does a huge sale twice a year. Personally, it's like dumping a pile of crack in an addict's lap. I get jittery the day before in anticipation of thousands of new, cheap books all in one place.

I really liked Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, the movie is based on the book- but as is most often the case, the book is way better.

Book of Ruth- I remember it being thought provoking, but depressing.
Light on Snow- I don't remember much... I think I tried it and didn't finish it.
Gap Creek- I remember liking this one.
All three are serious, darker books. Maybe read something light and fun in between?
